REMEMBER SUN STUDIO'S SAM PHILLIPS

There's a name that gets mentioned more than often on this website, and that name is "Sam Phillips".
There's a reason his name gets thrown around alot and that is because without Sam Phillips, there would be no rockabilly, there would be no blue or rock-n-roll, there would be no Elvis, there would be no Johnny Cash, and well, in a long and windy way, there would be no Reverend Wright And The Mystery Train Gamblers.

This Friday the 30th of July in 2003 is the day that Sam Phillips passed away, one day before Sun Studios was designated a National Historic Landmark. And who better to remember than the man that helped give birth to the music we all love so much.
Watch the short video interview with Sam Phillips about Sun Studios below and there after get out your Elvis record and put on "That's All Right Mama" or "Blue Moon Of Kentucky" and have a drink on the man that made it all possible...Sam Phillips!

CALIFORNIA SCREAMIN' 5

One of the events on the hot rod / kustom kulture art calendar that every respectable hot rooder and artist does not want to miss is the "California Screamin'" event that takes place every year around May at the Gasoline Gallery in El Segundo in California.
May 15, 2010 was the date and Reverend Wright was fortunate enough to catch the last couple of hours of the show and filmed the few remaining hot rods and artists that were still putting rubber to tar and One Shot to primer.
Check out Gasoline Gallery's website at www.gasolinegallery.com.

THE DELTA BOMBERS

Although the Reverend did not get to see these guys live it's a band that has been getting heavy rotation on the Rev's jukebox.
The Delta Bombers are from Las Vegas, USA and consist of Chris "Johnny Vulture" Moinichen on guitar/vocals, Andrew "Benjamin Andre" Himmler on lead guitar, Ozzy "Possum Jenkins" Chong on bass and Nick "Dookie" Lopez on drums and the band has their first album "Howlin'" on the famous label Wild Records.

For those of you who like the traditional rockabilly but with a bit of a kick-in-the-ass to boot then take a listen to The Delta Bombers.
You can find the band at their MySpace page HERE or their facebook page HERE.
Check out the videos below of The Delta Bombers!

VIVA LAS VEGAS ROCKABILLY WEEKEND

If you have a slight bit of rockabilly blood in you then you will know of, or have attended, the yearly Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend that takes place in Las Vegas at The Orleans Hotel round April/May of every year.
Upon arrival the parking lot and streets around Las Vegas are filled with hot rods, rat rods and choppers of all sizes and mutations. It is as if the normal "modern" folk have left Las Vegas and given way to every rock-n-roller, greaser and rockabilly fan.
The hotel is filled with the sounds of slot machines, upright basses and gretsch guitars, with an irish pub downstairs and two function rooms blaring live bands almost 24 hours and two rooms filled with vendors selling records, vintage clothing, instruments and kustom art you are engulfed in what I hope heaven looks like when I go (or hell, which ever way I may go).

Saturday is the day that the Shifters Car Club put together the associated hot rod show with more bands, more vendors and a display of all those hot rods and rat rods you saw cruizing the Vegas Strip.
With cars coming from as far as Canada you are treated to the top builds and ideas from the hot rod community.

The Rev was fortunate enough to attend Viva Las Vegas 2009 and will be attending next years Rockabilly Weekend from the 21st to 24th of April. Check out his photos below and make sure you attend next year's event as it promises to be one hell of a rockabilly shindig!
